Mary is one of the few foreigners working at the lab. She was born in London (Another one of the last few safe places on Earth). She studied at Oxford university, and would have stayed in England if she hadn’t gotten a personal letter of invite from the overseer’s to come work at the lab. And wouldn’t luck have it that she ended up working in my division. And I mean it, it’s really luck, because she’s cute. Like really cute. But’s not just her looks. Mary is without a doubt the smarted person I have ever met(the accent certainly helps sell it). When she first arrived here, not long after Daniel, we had just started our first cloning experiment. But we could not proceed until the cloned animals could live in an ethical way (something the overseer’s have complete disregard for these days). The equation for this problem stumped all of us, but Mary pretty much instantly solved, and we had two perfectly and healthy cloned sheep on our hands. Ever since then, she has had my heart in the palm of her hands. have I told her? God no. First of all dating coworkers is strictly prohibited, which means I would be terminated immediately, and I wouldn’t be able to keep you all up to date on what’s going on in this hell hole. And second, I’m just too shy. I have to admit, I’ve never been with a woman. I’m just not very confident. I’m much better staring at computers and test tubes than I am trying to woo the opposite gender. No, it’s much easier if we remain friends. I wouldn’t want to ruin our daily lunches with any awkwardness. Besides, she desperately needs a friend she can talk to these days. Mary is deathly afraid of the others, she has been ever since she was a little girl, and lately she’s described horrible nightmares about them that end with her waking up in tears. I wish I could tell her she is safe from them, that the others can get us here. But I’m not so sure about that.
